Social casino

Free-to-play social casino

A free-to-play social casino where players earn coins through missions, daily bonuses and surveys, and spend diamonds on real prizes.

Overview

A social casino is a casino you can't lose money in: players play slots, live and crash games with free coins, and earn more by playing, completing missions and coming back every day. I led the design of the whole platform, from the lobby and game pages to missions, the daily bonus, VIP levels, the marketplace and account verification, on desktop and mobile.

Problem

A free casino has no deposits to keep players interested. Everything that brings them back has to be designed: reasons to play today, goals for this week, and rewards worth working for. The platform also had to stay clearly on the right side of the line: play-for-fun only, with two separate currencies so nobody confuses coins with money.

How might we

How might we make a free casino feel rewarding every day, without real-money gambling?

Process

Two currencies, two jobs

Coins are for playing: players get them free and spend them on games. Diamonds are earned through promotions and missions and spent in the marketplace on real prizes. Each currency has its own colour and icon everywhere it appears, from the header to every mission card, so players always know which one they’re looking at.

One reward system, many entry points

Missions, the daily bonus, surveys, VIP progress and referrals all feed the same two balances. I designed them as one family: the same progress chips (done, reward, time left), the same modal pattern and the same states, from guest to logged in to completed.

Solution

A lobby that leads to rewards

The lobby puts games first (top and new games, then live and crash games) and keeps missions and promotions on the same screen, each with its progress visible before the player clicks.

Missions

Missions are grouped by type (refer a friend, time-limited, daily logins, gameplay) and each card shows exactly what’s left: a profile with nine fields to fill, a seven-day login streak, ten slots to try. Every step pays out on its own, so progress never feels far away.

Tasks and surveys

Quick tasks that pay coins: multiple-choice questions, a question answered by visiting the site, or a visit to a partner’s site. Ten steps, one per screen, with the progress bar always on top.

Task modals: multi-select question, question based on a website, and a partner visit

Daily bonus

A chest to claim every day, with a countdown to the next one, an eligibility status, a version for guests that leads to sign-up, and a loading skeleton.

VIP levels

Four levels, from Novice to Epic, each with its own character. The profile menu shows coins, diamonds and VIP progress together.

Marketplace

Diamonds buy real prizes: vouchers, devices or more coins, with time-limited discounts. Before the first purchase, players confirm a verified phone number and email, so prizes go to the right person.

Purchase flow: confirm the prize, confirm verified contact details, success

Mobile

The bottom bar keeps games, promotions, missions, the marketplace and the profile one tap away, with missions in the centre.

Mobile: top games, a game page and search

Outcome

The platform shipped with the full reward system: missions, tasks, daily bonus, VIP levels, referrals and the marketplace, each with every state designed from guest to completed.

Learnings

  • In a free product, the reward loop is the product. The games are the same everywhere; the reasons to come back are not.
  • Two currencies only work if they never look alike.
  • Designing every state (guest, loading, error, completed) up front saved more time in development than any single screen.
